Casa Cavalieri del Podestà
An exemplary artistic and structural renovation
The Casa Cavalieri del Podestà, located in Conegliano Veneto, was formerly the Colussi mansion. The complex includes a main building, from the end of the Fifteenth century, and a number of recently constructed annexes. Commissioned by Italscambi Carni D’Europa Company and with project by architects Meneghello, De Luca e Foltran, work began in 2004 under the supervision of and in collaboration with the “Soprintendenza per i beni architettonici e per il paesaggio del Veneto Orientale’’ (Superintendence for landscape and architectural assets in Eastern Veneto). The restoration project was preceded by a careful study of the building and a full set of static probes, stratographic tests and sampling were carried out on the internal walls of the mansion in order to locate any decorated surfaces. In the main building, the intervention has retained the distribution of the original internal spaces. The restoration involved the flooring slabs and the deteriorated roofs, the general systems and the recovery of the neutral and frescoed internal plasterwork as well as the main building’s decorated façade and the external plasterwork. In the recent annexes, the distribution of the spaces has been redefined.
