Eden Theatre
New spaces for culture
How should a historical building and new spaces specially created to meet modern needs be harmonised? Not just through respectful restoration of the existing building but also through the construction of new, innovative and extremely functional spaces, seamlessly inserted in such a way as to remain "invisible". In the restoration and extension of the Eden Theatre in Treviso, the new rooms were built underground so as to minimise the visual impact on the surrounding historical urban landscape – by digging out an area of 2,000 square meters crossed by groundwater, six meters down, and creating a protective system against seepage with a concrete diaphragm containing waterproof seals.
