When a new building unearths history

The restoration of the former Convent of San Francesco in Conegliano is an architect’s dream come true: to be the first to excavate, not unlike an emergency rescue operation, and pull out, one after the other, testimonies and relics of the past. The construction of the new underground car park of the complex provided the conditions and the financing needed to bring to light archaeological finds, and return them to the community. The former Convent, an exemplary high-quality restoration, hosted the scientific convention, “From Reversibility to Compatibility” in 2003.
