Palazzo dei Trecento

Preserving the historical and artistic beauty in city centers

In the heart of picturesque Treviso, is Palazzo dei Trecento, a 13th century palace, where the Consiglio Maggiore (major political counsel) convened. It underwent various renovations throughout the centuries and, following the bombings of World War II, the upper part was rebuilt from 1947-49. Commissioned by the Treviso Municipality in 2008, the Dottor Group under the project direction of Architects, Ms. Rossella Riscica and Mr. Sampieri
, and the collaboration of the Veneto Region Superintendence for Art and Historical Heritage, began a conservative restoration of the fascia of frescoes under the stone cornice of the Palace. This activity called for the complete restoration of the decorated frescoed fascia and the undecorated plastering below the stone cornice of the Palace. First, it was carefully cleaned dry, then specially cleaned using compresses of ammonium bicarbonate complex solution and re-cleaned with ion exchange resins. Thereafter, the portions that came loose were reattached using injection mortar, and stuccoed with aged lime paste. Finally, glazes filled in the painting in order to reconstruct the geometrical volume of the ornamentation.
