Palazzo Grassi
A race against time
The palace still carries the name of the Grassi family, the original owners who commissioned its construction in 1745. In 1949, after a number of structural revisions and change of owners, the palace was transformed to hold art exhibitions and events. In 2005, the renowned art collector, Francois Pinault, purchased the building.
It was decided to rework the exhibition areas of the renowned Palazzo Grassi in Venice in a very short time, and to reopen it to the public with a newly fitted exhibition. Tadao Ando Architect & Associates, based in Osaka, was awarded the commission for this prestigious project. As the general contractor, the Dottor Group, was responsible for managing a series of complex operations, directed and coordinated by engineers, Eugenio Tranquilli, Giandomenico and Luigi Cocco, and the architect Adriano Lagrecacolonna. Each activity was carefully planned and implemented in compliance with deadlines and budgeted costs.
